In 2023, the festival was dedicated to the 125th anniversary of Ninette de Valois, an outstanding dancer, teacher, theatre director, and cult figure of world choreography. Most notably, she danced professionally with Serge Diaghilev's Ballets Russes, later founding the Royal Ballet, one of the leading ballet companies of the 20th century. She also founded the Royal Ballet School and the touring company that became the Birmingham Royal Ballet. In 1947, Ninette de Valois founded the first ballet school in Turkey, which is now part of the State Conservatory of Music and Drama in Ankara. She also took part in the formation of the national ballets of Canada, Australia and Iran.
